Spring Hill, FL - Oak Hill Hospital proudly announces the promotion of its Chief Operating Officer, Sonia Wellman, RN, BSN, MBA, FACHE to Chief Executive Officer of Memorial Hospital of Tampa. Memorial Hospital of Tampa is a facility within the HCA West Florida Division.
Sonia Wellman has served as a healthcare executive for over 25 years in the acute care hospital setting. Her career began as a Registered Nurse in Miami, Florida at Jackson Memorial Hospital – University of Miami Health Systems where she held positions in Nursing Leadership, Education, and Research & Development. She completed her BSN and MBA while working full-time in various managerial roles.
After locating to West Florida, Mrs. Wellman served as an Executive for Health Management Associates, where she was involved with the opening of a new community hospital and providing executive leadership for a multi-campus healthcare system.
Mrs. Wellman joined HCA in 1999 as Chief Nursing Officer and is currently the Chief Operating Officer at Oak Hill Hospital. At Oak Hill she has led the implementation of Open Heart Services, Hospitalists program, Women’s Diagnostic Services and numerous expansion projects in excess of $100 million dollars required to manage the hospital’s ongoing growth. Most recently as the Ethics and Compliance Officer she was awarded the Top Performer with HCA West Florida Division for Ethics and Compliance.
Professionally Mrs. Wellman is Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and is actively involved in Hernando County as the past Chair of the Greater Hernando Chamber of Commerce. She is a graduate of Leadership Hernando and Leadership Citrus. In 2010 she was awarded the Glass Ceiling Award by the Hernando County Business and Professional Women’s Organization. Mrs. Wellman resides full time in Spring Hill with her husband Travis. They both enjoy time with their family and on the golf course.
