2015

    Oak Hill Hospital installed UltraClenz, an automated hand washing monitoring system in all patient care areas to increase hand washing awareness in the hospital by reminding staff to wash their hands with soap and water or alcohol gel before and after caring for patients and after touching any surrounding areas in the room. Installing the dispensers allowed the hospital to observe and measure hand washing practices to ensure a safe medical environment for everyone.

    The hospital introduced the Clinical Pharmacist Workflow (CPW) program designed to improve patient safety by providing medication management decision support. The tool supports the clinical pharmacy program with real-time surveillance of potential adverse drug events.

    The American Heart Association awarded Oak Hill Hospital with the Fit-Friendly Company – Gold Award for the seventh consecutive year.

  4.  

    The SuperDimension Navigation System was introduced. The LungGPS™ technology was the first of its kind to enable Electromagnetic Navigation Bronchoscopy™ procedures (also known as ENB™ procedures). ENB™ procedures provided a minimally invasive approach to accessing difficult-to-reach areas of the lung, which could aid in the diagnosis of lung disease and thereby lead to earlier, personalized treatment – potentially saving lives.

    Oak Hill Hospital received Intralign’s Operating Room Innovator Award for surgical growth in 2014. Intralign’s Operating Room Innovator Award recognizes top-performing Intralign partners who demonstrated outstanding surgical case volume or growth in cases supported by Intralign Surgical First Assistants (SFAs).

    Oak Hill Hospital was approved for an additional $6.3 million in capital funding for the addition of a fourth floor to its North Tower. This was in addition to the $13.7 million third floor/ obstetrics project, bringing the year’s total investment in the community to $20 million.

    The Florida Association of Blood Banks presented Oak Hill Hospital with the 2015 Hospital Partnership Award. LifeSouth Community Blood Centers nominated the hospital.

2014

    Oak Hill Hospital celebrated 30 years of patient care.

    Oak Hill Hospital received an “A” Safe Hospital Score from the Leapfrog Group, a national organization using the collective leverage of large purchasers of healthcare to initiate breakthrough improvements in the safety, quality and affordability of healthcare for Americans.

    The American Heart Association awarded Oak Hill Hospital with the Fit-Friendly Company - Gold Award for the sixth consecutive year.

  4.  

    Oak Hill Hospital is accredited in chest pain by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care.

    The Nursing Certification Challenge allowed full-time registered nurses to obtain a specialty certification paid for by Oak Hill Hospital between July 31, 2014 and December 31, 2015.\n\nThe goal was to achieve 100 new specialty certified nurses during that timeframe.

    Oak Hill Hospital’s first class of internal medicine physicians began their three-year residency on June 23.

    The Emergency Nurses Association awards Oak Hill Hospital with the Lantern Award for the second time and is one of only 17 hospitals nationwide to receive the designation. The award is a visible symbol of an emergency department’s commitment to quality, safety, a healthy work environment and innovation in nursing practice and emergency care. Achievement of the Lantern Award indicates that the emergency department exemplifies outstanding and exemplary performance in the core areas of leadership, practice, education, advocacy and research. Oak Hill Hospital was chosen as one of only 20 first-ever recipients of the award in 2011.

    Oak Hill Hospital introduces Patient Portal to provide patients who register for an account with online, instant, secure access to their medical records.

    Oak Hill Hospital launches SurgiTrak,™ a program patients register for to send updates to family members and friends on their status as they move through pre-op to surgery to recovery. Patients must enroll at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled procedure.

    The Intensivist Program began on February 24 with four physicians who were fellowship trained in critical care medicine or surgical critical care. The program allows a physician to consult with one of the intensivists who will then provide 24/7 coverage for the patient in conjunction with his/her physician. This program increases patient centered care by allowing patients--whose doctors have consulted with the intensivists – to provide immediate care and services for the patient, whether it’s 2:00 pm or 2:00 am.

    WomenCertified, Inc., the voice of female patients, included Oak Hill Hospital in their February announcement of the “best hospitals for patient experience in emergency care.” The congratulatory announcement was seen in the February 2014 edition of USA Today.

    Oak Hill Hospital became the first hospital in the area to have a GE CT Scanner in the emergency department, dedicated to emergency patients. The special Asir software could reduce the radiation dosage to the patient, and the additional monitor projects calming scenes to ease the patients mind and heart rate before the procedure is performed. The improved technology reduced the procedure time to at least half.

    The new Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) opened on January 20 as an eight bed intermediate/step-down unit located on the 2nd floor middle corridor, South Tower. The current IMC/OBs (old MI) became the Clinical Decision Unit (CDU), a 16 bed observation unit. Patients are placed here until a decision is made to either admit or discharge a patient.

    Oak Hill Hospital was chosen to pilot the telepsychiatry program which utilizes remote access technology (via video conferencing or robots) to diagnose and treat patients.\n\nInformation is current as of July 17, 2014.

    The Joint Commission recognizes Oak Hill Hospital as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures for 2012 for: heart attack; heart failure; pneumonia; and surgical care.

    The Diagnostic Imaging Department is fully accredited in all eligible diagnostic modalities by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

    Oak Hill Hospital announces that its laboratory has again been awarded accreditation by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists.

    Outpatient cardiac catheterization lab opens at Oak Hill Hospital in January.

    Filed C.O.N. to establish an adult inpatient cardiac catheterization program to meet the needs of the residents in Hernando County.

    Construction begins on Ambulatory Surgery and Endoscopy Center located on the medical campus of Oak Hill Hospital, specializing in outpatient, ambulatory surgery and endoscopic procedures.

1990

    Oak Hill Hospital’s fourth floor opens offering private and semi-private rooms and more than doubling its cardiac monitored beds.

  2.  

    Hernando Medical Center opens in August, allowing physicians to have offices on Oak Hill Hospital’s campus.

  3.  

    Oak Hill Hospitals filed C.O.N. for another 54 bed expansion to meet anticipated growth. The C.O.N. is approved and construction plans begin for a fifth floor addition, as well as a sixth floor obstetrical unit.

1989

    Construction started on Oak Hill Hospital’s fourth floor addition and an expansion of the emergency department.

  2.  

    In November the new 7,100 square foot emergency department is unveiled.

1988

    C.O.N. approved for the 54 bed addition that will increase the bed complement of the facility from 96 beds to 150.

    Plans are made for a 68,000 square foot medical center to be built adjacent to Oak Hill Hospital. The complex will house every major medical specialty.

    Oak Hill Hospital purchases two pieces of state-of the-art equipment for the diagnosis of cardiovascular disease - the Holter Monitor System and the HP Echocardiography System.

1987

    Oak Hill Hospital’s Center for Outpatient Services and Ambulatory Surgery opens in late September.

    To complement the growth, Oak Hill Hospital purchases a CT scanner and the most advanced non-invasive ultrasound equipment available.

1986

    Plans are underway for a $2 million, 10,000 square foot expansion for a Center for Outpatient Services and Ambulatory Surgery at Oak Hill Hospital to make way for a continued increase in outpatient surgery demand.

1984

    Oak Hill Hospital opens its doors on June 6, 1984, as a 96 bed, state-of-the-art, three-story facility.

  2.  

    The hospital reports more than 100 Hernando County residents express a desire to join the hospital’s volunteer program through volunteer applications.

  3.  

    Oak Hill managers report receiving 1,600 applicants for initial 140 staff positions.
