Interns can carry up to 10 patients at one time, admit up to five new patients in a 24 hour period, and up to eight new patients in a 48 hour period. The night float system will be introduced once the residency program has a critical number of residents to provide coverage. Residents will be working overnight only in the intensive care unit and emergency medicine rotations prior to the introduction of a formal night float system. Residents have direct faculty supervision in both of these settings during the night. Oak Hill Hospital is supported by extensive ancillary services, including IV teams and phlebotomists.
