PGY 1 residents will be on long call every fourth day until 10:00pm and can carry up to 10 patients at one time, admit up to five new patients in a 24 hour period, and up to eight new patients in a 48 hour period. Night float in other departments will be introduced during PGY 2. During PGY 1, residents will work overnight in the intensive care unit and emergency room. Residents have direct faculty supervision in both of these settings during the night. Oak Hill Hospital is supported by extensive ancillary services, including IV teams and phlebotomists.
