Oak Hill Hospital Partners with Pine Grove Elementary and Its Media
April 02, 2012
Spring Hill, FL – Oak Hill Hospital announces a recent partnership with Pine Grove Elementary School and its media center, and media specialist Bob Pellito, in a recent application for a grant from the Hernando County Education Foundation for its “Bear Book Buddies” project.
Bob Pellito, media specialist, was awarded a grant by the Education Foundation which allowed him to purchase 10” teddy bears for each first grade student to be used as a “reading buddy.” Students were able to bring buddy bears to the media center or to read in their classrooms. In addition, Mr. Pellito was able to provide the book, “The Teddy Bear” by David McPhail for each classroom, with a copy available in the media center. A book was also donated to the Oak Hill Hospital pediatric emergency department along with 10 bears for patients.
The intent was to have children walk around with their teddy bears and read to them. It worked! First graders continue to walk around the school reading to their teddy buddies.
