Oak Hill Hospital Announces Associates of the Month of June
July 18, 2012
Oak Hill Hospital has announced its Star Associates of the Month of June. Each month hospital associates are chosen in a process that involves nominations and voting by their peers, patients, patient families, and physicians.
This month’s Oak Hill Hospital “Stars” are:
Kristin Baker, RN, ONC (Orthopaedic Certified Nurse)
Kristin Baker, RN, ONC
Kristin Baker joined Oak Hill Hospital’s surgical floor and Orthopaedic & Spine Institute in June 2010. She serves as a charge nurse on the floor. She and her husband, Joseph, have two sons, Patrick and Joey, and two daughters, Ashley and Sidney. Their children range in age from 11 to 25 and the Bakers make their home in Spring Hill. Kristin’s several nominations came from the staff of the Orthopaedic & Spine Institute, as well as its head nurse who all extol her for her team spirit and leadership abilities. All nominations praised her for her ability to especially lead by example. They particularly noted one incident where she had an extended time off period (six days). Learning that there was no charge nurse available, Kristin cut short her time off and came in and filled the void. About Oak Hill Hospital she says, “When I arrived at Oak Hill Hospital in 2010, I was most impressed and comforted by the sense of family amongst every department. I enjoy working on the orthopaedic surgical floor because we provide a superb patient care and work together through the demands and stresses of nursing. The staff here takes pride in the fact that Oak Hill Hospital is the backbone of this community and what we do directly supports our community,” said Kristin.
Christopher Piscopo, RN, CEN (Certified Emergency Nurse)
Christopher Piscopo, RN, CEN
Chris joined Oak Hill Hospital’s team ten years ago and serves in both the emergency room and the cardiac catheterization lab. He views his job as “I am an emergency room and catheterization lab nurse who provides medical, psycho-social, and spiritual care for my patients and their families,” he said. Chris lives in Spring Hill with his girlfriend, Kelly. He has a son, Vinny, age three, and a daughter, Ena, age 9. Chris’ nomination came from a former Oak Hill Hospital associate who brought a friend into the emergency room and praised Chris who “went above and beyond the call of duty to be respectful, knowledgeable, and courteous to his patient, her family, and myself as a visitor. He answered all our questions and was open to suggestions. He kept us informed of Kaitlyn’s progress and frequently followed up with her and even swept the floor and tidied the room prior to going off shift!” said the nomination. About Oak Hill Hospital Chris says that he enjoys the leadership of his two directors and the senior staff who have helped to develop his skills as an effective critical care nurse. He says, “I would like to thank Phyllis Congemi who got me into nursing…had it not been for her I might not have went into nursing school. I also have met some outstanding patients and friends in the departments of the hospital.”
Joscelyn Stephens, CNA (Certified Nurses Assistant)
Joscelyn Stephens, CNA
Joscelyn joined Oak Hill Hospital in March of 2011 on an assignment from an agency but became full time staff in December of that year. She works as a nursing assistant on third floor medical and has floated throughout several nursing departments of the hospital. She views her job to assist the nurse with patient care and makes sure that patients have a wonderful experience while they are at Oak Hill. Joscelyn lives in Spring Hill. Her family consists of her mother, who is an RN, and her stepfather, who is a police officer, her father and two sisters, ages 21 and 7. Her nomination came from the family of a patient who praised Joscelyn for her happy and upbeat personality and her caring attitude. They felt particularly lucky to have her caring for their family member. Joscelyn says that the thing she likes most about working at Oak Hill Hospital is “the teamwork.”
In making the announcement Oak Hill Hospital’s Chief Operating Officer Sonia Gonzalez said, “Dr. Thomas Frist, Senior, our founder, always believed that ‘Good people beget good people.’ People like Kristin, Christopher and Joscelyn prove that Oak Hill Hospital will continue the legacy.”
