Barbara Brown, RN, CPEN
Kyoko Kraus, RN, CPEN
Spring Hill, Florida – Oak Hill Hospital has announced that Kyoko Kraus and Barbara Brown have both successfully completed the examination for national certification in pediatric emergency nursing, administered by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) and the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN®), as a requirement for working in the Pediatric Emergency Care Center.
CPEN is a nationally recognized credential that represents Oak Hill's commitment to excellence in the profession of pediatric emergency nursing, and to providing the highest quality of care to our patients.
The Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse (CPEN™) exam was developed and is delivered in equal partnership between PNCB and BCEN. This unique exam was developed in response to the Institute of Medicine’s report (2006) identifying an urgent need for specialized nursing expertise in the management of the emergency healthcare needs of pediatric patients.
The pediatric age group presents unique challenges to emergency departments in healthcare facilities around the country. To help mitigate those challenges, the CPEN exam highlights the specific needs of pediatric emergency patients and ensures that nurses earning this new certification are well versed in the emergency care of children.
Oak Hill Hospital requires all of its emergency nursing staff to be certified in emergency nursing or pediatric emergency nursing.
