Students from Springstead High School’s “Follow the Blood” Program Visit Oak Hill Hospital’s Laboratory and Blood Bank
Spring Hill, Florida (December 1, 2010) – Oak Hill Hospital announced that students from Ms. Anstead’s class at Springstead HS recently visited Oak Hill Hospital’s lab and blood bank as a part of the “Follow the Blood” program. The “Follow the Blood” program came about after a LifeSouth Community Blood Center presentation of “My Blood, Your Blood” at the school. The educational portion was so successful that the teacher wanted to conduct a one day field trip to the LifeSouth Blood Center. The field trip was expanded to a tour of the Oak Hill Hospital blood bank and lab. Students learned about the donation process and the component processing at the blood center and then concluded with a team project and presentation by the students. When the students visit Oak Hill Hospital laboratory, personnel show them exactly what happens to the blood once it’s been collected and processed by LifeSouth.
Oak Hill Hospital’s Lab is the only CAP (College of American Pathologists) accredited hospital laboratory in Hernando County.
