Spring Hill, Florida – Oak Hill Hospital has announced that Computerworld has selected their 100 Best Places to Work in IT in 2009. Oak Hill’s parent company, HCA, ranks as number 56. Each year Computerworld selects the 100 best places to work in the field of Information Technology. It offers ways for companies to achieve that status, tips for keeping IT employees upbeat and offers advice to IT professionals on how to choose the best places to work.
In choosing Oak Hill Hospital’s parent company, Computerworld stated that "the focus is on giving back to the community and its own employees." Every year, HCA (also known as Hospital Corporation of America) conducts its Caring for the Community Campaign, in which employees can volunteer at and support local non-profit organizations. In 2008, 1526 employees volunteered at 101 agencies in the community, giving over 12,000 hours of volunteer time. Employees are also encouraged to donate money as well as their time, with HCA matching dollar-for-dollar the money contributed by the employees. HCA also sponsors blood drives, Habitat for Humanity builds and Junior Achievement initiatives. The HCA Hope Fund charity, run and supported by employees, helps colleagues and their immediate families who are affected by hardships, such as disasters, extended illness or injury. Since its inception, the Hope Fund has helped 8400 HCA families and distributed $9 million in aid.
Managers offer telecommuting and flexible schedules to accommodate employees' personal needs. HCA has a total of over 191,000 employees and almost 3,000 of those are IT employees. Forty percent are women and 18 percent are minorities. Twelve percent of its IT managers are minorities and 20 percent of its IT staff are minorities.
