Hospital Earns Blue Distinction
August 13, 2010
Spring Hill, Florida – Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Florida, Inc. (BCBSF) has designated Oak Hill Hospital as a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care. This distinction is part of the Blue Cross/Blue Shield association’s expansion of Blue Distinction® designation. Oak Hill Hospital is the First - and currently the only – hospital in Hernando and Citrus Counties to hold this distinction.
Designation as Blue Distinction Center means the facility overall experience and aggregate data met objective criteria established in collaboration with expert clinicians and leading professional organizations’ recommendations. Blue Distinction Centers for Cardiac Care® have demonstrated their commitment to quality care, resulting in better overall outcomes for cardiac patients. Each facility meets stringent clinical criteria, developed in collaboration with expert physicians’ and medical organizations’ recommendations, including the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), and is subject to periodic reevaluation as criteria continue to evolve.
A Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care provides a full range of cardiac care services, including in-patient cardiac care, cardiac rehab, cardiac catheterization and cardiac surgery including coronary artery bypass graft surgery. To date there are only 410 Blue Distinction Centers for Cardiac Care across the country. For more information go to www.BCBS.com.
The Heart Institute at Oak Hill Hospital opened in February of 2006 and offers Hernando County’s only comprehensive cardiovascular services program, including open heart surgery, plus specialized cardiology and interventional cardiac services.
Oak Hill Hospital is in the middle of a $6.5 million expansion project for the Heart Institute at Oak Hill Hospital. The project adds 20 private telemetry rooms on the sixth floor adjacent to the ten bed cardiovascular intensive care unit. The project is scheduled to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year and will increase Oak Hill Hospital’s licensed capacity to 234 beds.
